WASHINGTON, D.C. – Today, Rep. Phil Roe, M.D. (R-Tenn.) released the following statement on Tax Day 2018:

“Every April, Americans spend countless hours of time and energy on long, complicated tax forms while working through confusing tax rules. However, this year we have a reason to celebrate because it’s the last year Americans will use the old, burdensome, out-of-date tax code. Starting next year, thanks to last year’s Tax Cuts and Jobs Act, more Americans than ever will be able to file their taxes with the simplified tax form, save money with a nearly-doubled standard deduction and keep more of the hard-earned money in their paycheck – just to name a new of the benefits. I’m proud April 17, 2018, marks the beginning of a fairer, simpler tax code. Already, many Americans have seen their employers increase wages, provide bonuses or improve benefits as a result of the law, and many more are seeing larger paychecks now that the IRS has changed the withholding table. Next year, every American will be able to see the benefit of this updated and reformed tax code.”
