Roe Recognized by Military Order of the Purple Heart for Commitment to VeteransWASHINGTON, D.C. – Today, Rep. Phil Roe, M.D. (R-Tenn.), chairman of the House Committee on Veterans’ Affairs, was awarded the Military Order of the Purple Heart’s (MOPH) Outstanding Leadership Award for his work as chairman. Rep. Roe released the following statement: “The Military Order of the Purple Heart is an incredible organization, and I’m honored to receive this special recognition. During our discussions about how best to bring accountability to the Department of Veterans Affairs and expand GI Bill benefits, they were tireless advocates on behalf of the brave men and women who have been wounded in combat. Because of their efforts, any servicemember who receives a Purple Heart is now eligible for GI Bill benefits. Prior to the Forever GI Bill, Purple Heart recipients were required to complete three years of service before they could utilize the GI Bill. To me, this was simple. Any man or woman willing to shed their blood for this country should absolutely be able to take advantage of GI Bill benefits, and I’m grateful for MOPH’s leadership and help in moving these important bills through Congress.” MOPH National Commander Neil Van Ess released the following statement: “Chairman Roe’s service to veterans is not only greatly appreciated, but critical to the well-being of veterans and their relationship with the VA. Congressional oversight of Veterans Affairs, for us, is the most important role that the Congress can play.” You can read more about MOPH here. |
