WASHINGTON, D.C. – Today, Rep. Phil Roe, M.D. (R-Tenn.) released the following statement after voting in support of  H.R. 38, the Concealed Carry Reciprocity Act which also contained the text of H.R. 4477, the Fix National Instant Criminal Background Check System (NICS) Act:

“I am committed to protecting law-abiding Americans’ Second Amendment rights. I am proud to stand with my colleagues in support of this critical piece of legislation that ensures citizens’ rights don’t end once they cross state lines and addresses shortcomings in the Federal Bureau of Investigation’s NICS database. Just a few years ago, we saw the absurdity of Virginia threatening to crack down on Tennessee concealed carry permit holders. This would have meant that Tennesseans with a valid concealed carry permit could be committing a felony by crossing the street in places like Bristol. I am also pleased the Fix NICS Act was included in this legislation, as it will ensure existing laws designed to keep guns out of the hands of criminals will be better enforced. As a concealed carry permit holder, you can rest assured I will continue to defend the Second Amendment rights of law-abiding Americans.”

Roe wrote about these bills in his weekly column. Both measures are supported by the National Rifle Association.
