WASHINGTON, D.C. – Today, Rep. Phil Roe, M.D. (R-Tenn.) released the following statement after voting in favor of H.Con.Res. 71, the Senate-amended Fiscal Year 2018 budget resolution:

“Putting our fiscal house in order is one of my top priorities in Congress, and I’m proud the House and Senate agreed on a responsible budget. This resolution will pave the way for tax cuts that will allow East Tennesseans to keep more of their hard-earned pay, create good-paying jobs in the First District, and help ensure prosperity for future generations. Overhauling our complicated tax code is among President Trump’s highest priorities, and this budget is a significant step towards fulfilling his promise to allow taxpayers to keep more of what they earn. I applaud House Budget Committee Chairman Diane Black for championing this budget. This is a once-in-a-generation opportunity, and I’m excited to work with our president to deliver the tax relief Americans deserve.”

NOTE: Now that the House and Senate have agreed to a budget resolution, Congress will have the opportunity to use reconciliation to pass tax reform. Reconciliation gives Senate Republicans the ability to avoid the filibuster on budget-related provisions and pass them on a simple majority vote.
