Roe Statement on Chimney Tops 2 Fire Report
JOHNSON CITY, Tenn. – Rep. Phil Roe, M.D. (R-Tenn.) released the following statement on the release of the U.S. National Park Service Chimney Tops 2 fire report:
“The fires that occurred in Gatlinburg, Tennessee, were unprecedented and heart-wrenching. I can't say enough how thankful I am for the courage and valor of the first responders and firefighters who did everything they could to help stop the fires from spreading, and my thoughts and prayers continue to be with every person affected by this horrible tragedy. Tennessee experienced one of the worst fires it has seen in the past 100 years last year, and this long-awaited report contains many helpful recommendations that will go a long way to prevent tragedies like this in the future. I thank state, local and park officials for their tireless work on behalf of Sevier Countians, and I commend Secretary Zinke for prioritizing this important review."
