Roe Statement on the Thin Blue Line Act
WASHINGTON, D.C. – Today, Rep. Phil Roe, M.D. (R-Tenn.) released the following statement on the passage of H.R. 115, the Thin Blue Line Act, by the House of Representatives:
“I commend Rep. Vern Buchanan for introducing this legislation. As we honor the brave men and women who put their lives on the line daily to keep us safe and protect our freedoms, I am proud to support legislation that sends a clear message that targeting law enforcement officers will never be tolerated. Holding law enforcement officers to the esteem they deserve is very important, and I am proud the House of Representatives is acting to further deter harm to law enforcement officers.”
Note: The Thin Blue Line Act adds the murder of a state or local police officer as an aggravating factor for a jury to consider in deciding whether to impose the death penalty in federal capital cases. This legislation reaffirms that the stalking or killing of law enforcement officers must not and will not be tolerated.Watch Congressman Roe’s floor statement on the Thin Blue Line Act here.
