WASHINGTON D.C. – Today, Rep. Phil Roe, M.D. (R-TN) voted today in support of H.J. Res. 59, a continuing resolution for fiscal year 2014. This amended resolution continues funding government operations through December 15th and delays the president’s health care law for one year.

Additionally, Rep. Roe supported H.R. 3210, the Pay Our Military Act. This bill provides a direct appropriation to pay the salaries and allowances to members of the Armed Forces (including active duty reserves and the Coast Guard) during any period in fiscal year 2014 where traditional funding measures are not in effect.

Roe made the following statement on the bills:

Early this morning, the House voted once again on a measure that would fund government operations through December 15. This bill would delay ObamaCare for one year and repeal the medical device tax, one of the worst parts of the president's health care law. Simply put, ObamaCare is not ready for primetime and it's time we give individuals the same relief and protection the president granted big business. The administration claims House Republicans are holding the budget hostage, but nothing could be further from the truth. The House has passed not one but two bills to avoid a shutdown. It's time for the Senate to pass this bill and send it to the president.

This morning I also supported a separate bill to ensure our troops will be still paid in the event of a shutdown. We should not abandon the men and women that bravely serve this country because the president of the United States refuses to work with members of Congress to find a compromise.
