Washington, D.C. – Rep. Phil Roe, M.D. (R-TN) released the following statement on U.S. military intervention in Syria:
“I attended a classified briefing on the situation in Syria after returning to Washington yesterday. While I am deeply disturbed by the idea of the Syrian government using chemical weapons against its own people, our strategic objectives are still unclear to me and I see too much risk of being drawn into another long-term conflict in the Middle East. I cannot support the U.S. military intervention that has been proposed. I will continue to closely monitor any new developments in the situation.”
