WASHINGTON D.C. – Today, U.S. Congressman Phil Roe, M.D. (TN-01) released the following statement on the Cyber Intelligence Sharing and Protection Act (CIPSA):

“The rising online threat of cyber attacks is one of the greatest threats to our national security, and we must work to protect our nation’s critical infrastructure from attack.  That is why I am pleased to support the Cyber Intelligence Sharing and Protection Act because it will help to defend private sector and government networks from attacks from countries like China – while keeping the federal government’s hands off the Internet.

“This bill creates guidelines so that if our intelligence agencies are alerted to an attack, they can share information with companies whose networks may be at risk.  Importantly, the companies’ participation is voluntary, so if there are any concerns about what information is being shared there is nothing that requires them to do so.”
