WASHINGTON D.C. – U.S. Congressman Phil Roe, M.D. (TN-01), chair of the Health, Employment, Labor and Pensions subcommittee for Education and the Workforce committee released the following statement in support of H.R. 3094, the Workforce Democracy and Fairness Act:

“The National Labor Relations Board (NLRB) has struck again—this time to take away workers’ right to a fair union election. Over the summer, the NLRB proposed radical changes to the rules governing union elections that would dramatically decrease the time between the beginning of an organizing effort and a union election.

“The NLRB continues to advocate for harmful policies that will hinder job creation, and now it is trying to make it dramatically easier to unionize businesses.  Instead of encouraging employers to expand operations and hire new workers, the NLRB would cause chaos in the workforce by dividing employees and raising an employer’s labor costs.

“Passage of the Workforce Democracy and Fairness Act would protect the worker’s privacy and their individual rights in a union election. It would guarantee workers receive all the facts from both sides and have the ability to make a fully informed decision, rather than participate in a rushed election.

“In the current economic climate, Congress should be working to create an environment that makes adding jobs easier, not more difficult. Radical regulations add more burdens and obstacles that threaten job creation.  This bill protects jobs and ensures a fair union election process.”
