WASHINGTON D.C. – U.S. Congressman Phil Roe, M.D. (TN-01), a member of the House Energy Action Team (HEAT), released the following statement on H.R. 1230: Restarting American Offshore Leasing Now Act:

“Gasoline prices are rising extremely fast, and everyone is feeling the pain at the pump.  We’re suffering today because for too long we haven’t had a national energy policy. The Restarting American Offshore Leasing Now Act will require the Administration to move forward promptly to conduct offshore lease sales in the Gulf of Mexico and offshore Virginia that have been delayed or canceled.

“Passage of this legislation is an important step towards achieving energy independence; however, more must be done. As a matter of national security, we must pursue policies that lower fuel prices and lift regulations that are contributing to even higher petroleum and energy prices.”

NOTE: Earlier today, the Obama Administration announced its opposition to H.R. 1230.
