House Passes Legislation to Keep Troop Funding Intact
WASHINGTON D.C. – Today, U.S. Congressman Phil Roe, M.D. (TN-01) voted to continue funding our troops, even if a government shutdown occurs. Members who supported H.R. 1363 exemplified their commitment to ensuring our men and women in uniform serving in Afghanistan, Iraq, and around the world will be paid if a shutdown occurs.
Roe made the following statement on H.R. 1363:
My top priority is to ensure our troops are taken care of and paid for their service. In no way do I want the government to shut down; however, the Senate refuses to pass an FY 2011 CR. Our troops should not be affected or harmed in any way because Democrats are choosing to play political games with the FY 2011 Continuing Resolution. To ensure our troops are taken care of, House Republicans introduced, and Congress passed, legislation to fund our troops.
It is unconscionable the President is threatening to veto this important legislation. It is, without a doubt, a slap in the face to the men and women in uniform who are fighting on the front lines to protect our country and our freedom.
H.R. 1363 passed the House by a vote of 247-172. The bill will now be sent to the Senate for consideration.
