Roe Statement on New Abortion Regulation
WASHINGTON, DC – In a recent op-ed in The Hill, U.S. Congressman Phil Roe, M.D. (TN-1) shed light on how the Obama Administration had approved several states’ plans for high risk pools that include coverage for taxpayer-funded abortions under the new national government-run health care program.
Today, The Hill reported that the Administration reversed course and the Department of Health and Human Services is now issuing a new regulation that will specifically prohibit state high-risk pools from covering elective abortions.
“I’ve said from the beginning that issuing an Executive Order was not an effective substitute for concrete legislative language prohibiting taxpayer funding from being used for abortion,” said Roe. “While today’s news is a small positive step, it also clearly demonstrates that the promises made on abortion were hollow just like the promises made on taxes and cost.”
