Roe Urges Obama to Reconsider Decision to Contribute $400 Million in Taxpayer Dollars to Region Ruled by Hamas
WASHINGTON, D.C. – Today, CNN reported President’s plan for the U.S. to contribute $400 million in development aid to the Palestinian territories and work with Israel to loosen its embargo on Gaza.
U.S. Congressman Phil Roe, M.D. (TN-1) issued the following statement in response to Obama’s announcement the U.S. will contribute $400 million to the West Bank and Gaza, which is ruled by the Palestinian Islamic movement Hamas.
“This announcement is very troubling on many levels; further, it is a direct threat to our national security along with our closest ally, Israel. It is most disturbing is that the President is directing $400 million dollars in taxpayer money that will go into the hands of those who want to do harm to our country. What I don’t understand is how the President plans on reasoning with Palestinians about what he even refers to as an ‘unsustainable’ situation in Gaza. Simply put, you cannot reason with the unreasonable, and throwing money at the problem will not solve it.
“I urge the President to reconsider his misguided decision that could give our enemies money they can potentially use to harm our homeland.”
