WASHINGTON, DC – U.S. Congressman Phil Roe, M.D. (TN-1), Member of the Pro-Life Caucus, will participate and speak at the 37th Annual March for Life attended by thousands of people from around the country – many of whom have come to Washington every year since 1973, when the U.S. Supreme Court ruled in Roe v. Wade.

This year, the March for Life will focus on the Democrats’ health care proposal, which has the potential to be just as disastrous for pro-life principles as Roe v. Wade if taxpayer-subsidized plans end up covering abortion services.

Pro-Life Congressman Phil Roe released the following statement:

“As an obstetrician and gynecologist, I’ve delivered close to 5,000 babies and I strongly support the sanctity of life. Using technology like the 3-D ultrasound has given us windows to the womb that show unborn children as living, breathing, feeling human beings. I have looked through that window with my own eyes. I have seen human development occur from the earliest stages of a fetus all the way through birth, which strengthens my conviction in the right to life.

“Life is a precious miracle from God that begins at conception. It’s our responsibility and privilege as legislators to protect those who do not have a voice. I will always fight for the right to life because it is my conviction that we are all unique creations of a God who knows us and loves us before we are even conceived.

“Since the Roe vs. Wade decision in 1973, more than 50 million babies have been denied the right to life. As we mark one of the most tragic and misguided Supreme Court cases in our nation’s history, we must redouble our efforts to make our laws consistent with our science and restore full legal protections to the unborn. I am proud to stand with other legislators fighting for these rights.”

Congressman Roe’s congressional office will be open to receive First District residents who are traveling to Washington, DC for the March for Life event. His office is located in room 419 of the Cannon House Office building across the street from the U.S. Capitol. For additional information, contact Roe’s office at 202-225-6356.
