Roe Statement on S.J.Res 1 Legislation Approving the Location for the National Desert Storm and Desert Shield War Memorial Act Becoming Law
WASHINGTON D.C. – Today, President Trump signed S.J.Res. 1 into law, a resolution approving a location in Area I on the National Mall for the National Desert Storm and Desert Shield War Memorial. Rep. Phil Roe (R-Tenn.), who authored the House version of this joint resolution issued the following statement regarding the bill:
“I appreciate President Trump signing this important piece of bipartisan legislation into law. This law will enable the service members who fought in Operations Desert Storm and Desert Shield to have a memorial on the National Mall, like so many of their brothers and sisters in arms who served in prior conflicts. The men and women who serve our country deserve to be honored with dignity and respect. Their sacrifice will always be remembered through the building of this memorial.”
Note: The United States currently lacks a national memorial dedicated to the service members who fought in Operations Desert Shield and Desert Storm. All funds will be raised privately by the National Desert Storm War Memorial Association. Rep. Roe sponsored the legislation authorizing the memorial that was included as Section 3093 of P.L. 113-291, the Carl Levin and Howard P. “Buck” McKeon National Defense Authorization Act for Fiscal Year 2015.
