WASHINGTON, D.C. – Today, Rep. Phil Roe, M.D. (R-TN) released the following statement after voting to send a bill to repeal Obamacare and defund Planned Parenthood to the president’s desk:

"As someone who spent three decades caring for patients, I’ve been concerned about the president’s health care law since it was forced through a Democrat-led Congress six years ago. Since then, the law has done irreparable harm to hardworking families all over the country, increasing costs and lowering the quality of health care. I’ve worked to bring sanity and certainty back to the American health care system by voting to fully repeal the law, highlighting and opposing the worst parts of the law and even going so far as to write the Republican Study Committee’s conservative alternative to Obamacare. Today, I’m proud to act once again to protect the American people from this atrocious law.

“Similarly, as an OB-GYN who delivered nearly 5,000 babies through my medical practice, I was heartbroken, sickened and appalled by the allegations against Planned Parenthood earlier this year. We should all be able to agree that tax dollars should not go to any organization that breaks our laws, which is why I strongly support redirecting funds from Planned Parenthood to community health centers. I know firsthand how important it is for vulnerable populations to have access to health care, but I also know that abortions and mutilating the bodies of babies to sell them for parts are not preventative health care services. Our tax money would be better spent by centers dedicated to delivering true health care services to women, and I’m glad the House is keeping their promise to the American people by sending these important provisions to the president’s desk.”
